Dr. Carole Elizabeth Scott

Dr. Carole Elizabeth Scott of Carrollton passed away on September 13, 2026. She was a native of Atlanta, born September 27, 1937 to the late Elizabeth M. Scott and Albert C. Scott. Dr. Scott earned a BBA in Marketing and an MBA from Georgia State University. She worked for Georgia Power Company before returning to GSU, where she earned a PhD in Economics.

In 1968, Dr. Scott was hired at the University of West Georgia; she initially taught Finance, then transitioned to Economics where she shared her love of economic history with students, colleagues, and friends. She retired from teaching in Spring 2000 as Professor of Economics and was named Professor Emerita in November 2000.

Dr. Scott founded B>Quest, one of the first online journals of applied business and economics in 1996 and remained active after retirement as its Editor-in-Chief until 2018 when it ceased publishing. Friends and colleagues celebrated her 50 years of service to the University of West Georgia and the Richards College of Business.

Dr. Scott was a prolific writer, publishing in the Georgia Historical Quarterly, Atlanta History, Agricultural History, and other historical journals and magazines, including America's Civil War, The Civil War Times, and Blue and Gray.

She wrote a book on financial planning, Your Financial Plan: A Consumer’s Guide published by Harper & Row and Clopton's Short History of the Confederate States of America, 1861-1925, a counter-fictional account of what might have been written in textbook format. In recognition of her interest in and knowledge of the War Between the States, two Sons of Confederate Veterans Camps in Carroll County made her an honorary member. She also published a story in Analog, the science fiction magazine.

For 30 years Dr. Scott wrote a weekly newspaper column for the Times-Georgian and she wrote numerous columns and feature and news stories, took photographs, and drew editorial cartoons for the Star News. She served as Webmaster for the Carroll County chapter of the Georgia Master Gardeners for many years.
