Douglas (Doug) Allan Kanter, age 72, passed away surrounded by his family on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 after several challenging months with his health. Doug was born in Lakewood, Ohio in 1948. He was a loving husband of just over 50 years to his high school and college sweetheart Marilyn, proud father to Jennifer Stewart (Rand) and Rebecca Poelker (Mark) and doting "Papa" to his granddaughter Norah Lillian Poelker. He is also survived by his sister Nancy Lehman (John) and preceded in death by his parents Mathew and Helen Kanter. Doug's family, friends and colleagues will miss him dearly. While he had an accomplished career outside of the home, taking care of his family was his favorite job and one at which he excelled and will be remembered most. The first in his family to graduate college, Doug instilled in his daughters his strong work ethic, the need to always do the right thing, his sense of humor and the art of delivering a great speech as he did at their weddings. He was passionate about his family and their family homes, designing and building beautiful spaces both indoors and outdoors in New York, Ohio, North Carolina and Georgia. Doug also loved the beach, the family dogs, playing cards, meals with family and friends, a good cocktail and listening to Frank Sinatra, Motown and his favorite, The Beach Boys. His family will always remember annual vacations driving between Ohio and the Atlantic coast singing along. One who constantly joked that he was "not bad for an old guy," his infamous "Doug-isms" will never be forgotten by his family, friends and colleagues from TRW, Loctite, and Bondo where throughout his career he served as VP North American Automotive Sales, VP and General Sales Manager of Automotive Sales, VP of Automotive Aftermarket Sales and VP of Sales and Marketing prior to his retirement. Doug was a devoted church-goer and he and Marilyn are members of Carrollton Presbyterian Church. Due to the restrictions of COVID-19, the family will hold a private viewing on July 30 at Almon Funeral Home, 548 Newnan Street, Carrollton, GA, 30117 and will hold a memorial service for extended family and friends at a later date.
