Jun 25, 1947 — Sep 29, 2026

Mrs. Deloris Bohannon Covel, age 79, of Villa Rica, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.

She was born June 25, 1947, in Carroll County, Georgia, to the late Carl William Bohannon and Delphia Bass Bohannon. Deloris graduated from the University of West Georgia, where she earned a degree in accounting.

Deloris devoted much of her professional life to serving and enriching the Carroll County community. She retired from Carrollton Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts, where she served as Assistant Director and Superintendent of the Cultural Arts Division. Throughout her career, she was a dedicated advocate for the arts, recreation, and community programming. Her work extended beyond Carroll County, as she served in leadership with the Georgia Recreation and Park Association and was involved in promoting and supporting arts programming throughout the region.

Deloris' love for the arts was reflected not only in her professional life but also in the way she lived. She had a deep appreciation for creativity, history, culture, and the beauty of the world around her. She was an avid traveler and had the opportunity to visit 38 countries, including China and Russia. She treasured the experiences, friendships, and memories gathered throughout her travels and carried those experiences with her throughout her life.

Her influence on the local arts community continued long after her retirement. Her dedication and contributions to the arts were recognized through the Arts Festival of Carrollton, which established the “Deloris Covel Best in Fine Art” award in her honor. Her legacy lives on through the cultural art programs and community institutions she supported throughout her years of service.

Deloris was also a longtime member of St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, where she found fellowship, friendship, and community. Her faith and her relationships with those around her were important parts of her life.

Deloris is survived by her beloved husband, Dr. Robert C. Covel; her daughter and son-in-law, Denise (Rick) Lybrand; grandchildren, Amanda (Luke) Henderson, Taylor (Ryon) Green, Tyler (Kalyn) Brown, and Deaven Brown; and great-grandchildren, Nora Caye Henderson, Hank Henderson, Sawyer Green, Liam Green, Juliet Brown, and Oliver Brown.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Billy David Brown; and brothers, Larry Bohannon and Jerry Bohannon.

Deloris will be remembered for her elegance, warmth, love and support of cultural arts, adventurous spirit, and unwavering dedication to the community she served. She touched the lives of many through her professional work, her love of the arts, her travels, her friendships, and, most importantly, her family.
