Obituary

Mr. Edward Buddy Pope, known to all simply as "Buddy", of Belva Street, Carrollton died Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at the age of 75. Buddy was a lifelong resident of Carrollton, born August 21, 1935, the son of the late John H. Pope and Adele Griffin Pope. His first job at 9 years old was delivering groceries on a bicycle for City Supply Grocery. Buddy attended Carrollton High School and worked during school at The Playhouse Theater. The cost of admission was 9 cents for a child. He had a great love for Carrollton, the community and received that same love back from his many friends throughout the community. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in June of 1953 and received the rank of Airman 1st Class in February of 1956. He served until he was honorably discharged in June 1957. After his service in the U.S. Air Force, Buddy returned home to Carrollton. He worked a short time with Southwire before beginning his career with Georgia Power Company. After 31 years he retired from Georgia Power and has worked the last 19 years as part of the Almon Funeral Home staff. He was a member the Georgia Power Ambassadors, Golden K Kiwanis and Bethany Christian Church. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, La Juana Cole Pope; daughters, Suzanne White of Carrollton, Amy White of Carrollton; grandchildren, Lindsey White, Derek White, Seth White, Tucker White, Carson White; great grandchildren, Kade White, Ava White; special friend, Sammy Eady and the Almon Funeral Home family. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his 14 year old dog, Tom Dooley, the day before Thanksgiving of November 2010. The family will receive friends at Almon Funeral Home on Friday from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Funeral service will be Saturday, February 19 at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Almon Funeral Home with Minister Allen Howard, Dr. Dean Milford, Mr. Larry Cole and Miss Lindsey White officiating. Music will be by J. N. and Onie Baxter. Pallbearers will be Derek White, Seth White, Tucker White, Carson White, James Cook and Jerry Driver. Honorary pallbearers will be Georgia Power employees, Georgia Power Ambassadors and the Golden K Kiwanis. Interment will be in Carroll Memory Gardens with Rev. Keith Hancock officiating. The American Legion Post #143 will fold and present the U.S. Flag. Taps will be by Brock Eady.
