Obituary

Mrs. Betty Ruth Strawn Wadsworth, age 94, of Douglasville, Georgia passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2023.

Betty was born in Winston, Georgia, on January 4, 1929 – the 8th of 10 children – to the late Pearl Green and Ida Mae Gattis. She was born at home on the eve of the Great Depression into a large farming family. She often stated that her father's occupation as a farmer was the only thing that kept her family fed during her childhood. Betty lived a quiet, simple life raising two wonderful daughters. She worked as an administrative assistant at Crawford & Company until she retired to help care for her youngest grandchild in 1989. Her love of Jesus and her family shone bright in her daily life. Betty loved to cook for her family, and all looked forward to her coconut cake and her sweet potato souffle every holiday. Her grandchildren, and ultimately her eight great grandchildren, were the center of her world. When she wasn't hard at work with family on a jigsaw puzzle, Betty loved to read the Bible, do crossword puzzles, and play solitaire. Betty was a lifelong Christian and instilled her Christian values in both of her children. She was a member of the West Metro Church of God; however, later in life, she attended services at other churches with family.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Barbara Langley Harding; grandchildren, Charles "Chad" Bolding, Amy Moseley Rowell, Erica Bolding Studdard, Mary Rebecca Harding, Andrew Stephen McElroy; and eight great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Wadsworth; daughter, Nancy Langley McElroy; and all nine of her siblings.

A visitation will be on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, from 10:00 am to 10:30 am at Ephesus Baptist Church Cemetery in Winston, Georgia. A graveside service where she will be buried alongside her daughter, Nancy, will follow at 10:30 am with remarks from Erica Studdard.
