Ben Lane Moon, age 86, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2025, in Carrollton, Georgia. Born on November 4, 1938, in Tallassee, Alabama, Ben lived a life marked by curiosity, adventure, and deep devotion to his family.

After graduating from College Park High School in College Park, Georgia, Ben pursued higher education with determination and distinction. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management from Georgia Tech. His passion for communication and storytelling later led him to the University of Florida, where he completed a Master's degree in Journalism.

Ben's professional journey was as diverse and dynamic as his interests. He began his career contributing to one of the most significant scientific endeavors of the 20th century—working with NASA at the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville during the early years of the Saturn/moon landing project. His talent for technical writing and editorial work took him to the University of Florida as an editor for their business magazine and then back to Georgia Tech as publications director and alumni editor.

Later in his career, Ben helped establish Southwire's Communications Department before serving Dow and other companies as a field communications consultant for fifteen years. Even after "retirement," Ben never stopped writing or sharing knowledge. He worked as a freelance writer, adjunct professor, and public information officer with FEMA during hurricane and tornado recovery efforts. His words reached wide audiences through published columns in the Times-Georgian and articles in Guideposts and Southern Living magazines. He also authored a history of Tanner Medical Center and served as editor for his and Jackie's Airstream Park publication.

Ben's intellectual curiosity was boundless. Known affectionately by his family as a Renaissance Man, he had an insatiable appetite for learning—especially about history—and was always eager to share what he knew. He had a deep love for aviation and classic cars, passions that reflected his appreciation for both innovation and craftsmanship. Travel was another joy in Ben's life; he and Jackie explored much of the world together, embracing every opportunity for adventure.

Family was at the heart of everything Ben did. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Jacquelyn Greene Moon; their children Melissa Underwood (Jeff), Stephanie Hammonds (Justin), Kimberly Ussery (Brian), and Collier Moon (Amanda); grandchildren William (Holly), Nathan (Autumn), and Christian Underwood; Coulson and Avriana Hammonds; Kendall and Ezekiel Ussery; and John, Luke, and Jacob Moon; and great-granddaughter McKinley Underwood. He is also survived by his sisters Diane Moon Miller and Jeanne Moon Marsh (Brian), along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Ben was preceded in death by his parents Georgia E. Moon and Benjamin A. Moon; infant brothers John and Dennis; brother-in-law Jim Miller; niece Debbie Miller; nephew Mike Miller; and sister-in-law Lana Holder (John).

To those who knew him best—his children who called him "Daddy" and grandchildren who lovingly knew him as "Paw"—Ben was a constant presence: cheering from the sidelines at events, attending performances with pride, or simply being there when it mattered most. He loved a good gathering, brought energy to every room he entered, and fiercely supported each member of his family.

Visitation will be held at Almon Funeral Home on Saturday, May 17, 2025 from 12:30-2:30 p.m., followed by a celebration of Ben's life at 3:00 p.m. at First Methodist Church in Carrollton, Georgia.
