Obituary

Barbara Kuglar Barnes, age 87 of Carrollton, Georgia passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2017. Mrs. Barnes was born in Birmingham, Alabama on January 28, 1930, the daughter of the late Paul Kuglar and Louise Broome Kuglar. Mrs. Barnes retired from real estate as an agent with Re/Max United and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Barbara lived in Carrollton since early childhood and attended the Carrollton city schools and West Georgia College. In addition to real estate, her previous professional pursuits have included employment with the Carrollton City School System, the U.S. Soil Conservation Service, the U.S. House of Representatives, and Barnes Freight Line, Inc. She was a charter member of both the Carrollton Junior Woman's Club and the Tanner Hospital Auxiliary. With her professional schedule and varied civic interest, Barbara also enjoyed playing bridge and followed the NASCAR racing circuit in her scarce leisure time. Survivors include her son, Carl Clifford "Buddy" Barnes, Jr., of Carrollton; brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Marie Kuglar of Aranass Pass, Texas; sister-in-law, Eleanor (Ronnie) Edwards; nephew, John (Jennifer) Barnes; niece, Elizabeth Ann Barnes; Goddaughter, Kay C. Horton all of Carrollton. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Clifford Barnes and brother-in-law, Mike Barnes. The family will receive friends at Almon Funeral Home on Thursday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Funeral service will be Friday, February 3, 2017 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Almon Funeral Home with Rev. Keith Hancock and Dr. Steve Davis officiating Pallbearers will be Dr. Tom Fitzgerald, Dr. Tee Reeves, Ron Almon, Chris Bass, John Barnes, Bart Grisham, Glenn Grisham, Tony Haynes, John Sammon, Jim Warren and Michael Zachry. Honorary pallbearers will be Boogie Johnson, Bob Reeves, Doyle Garrett, Jack Lawler and William Traylor. Interment will be in Carroll Memory Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Children's Home, 500 S Columbia Dr, Decatur, GA 30030.
