Ann Lane
O'Quinn
Oct 22, 1938 — Oct 12, 2024
Mrs. Sara Ann Lane O'Quinn, age 85, of Carrollton, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 12, 2024. Born on October 22, 1938, in the Farmer's High community, she was the daughter of the late Melvin Lane and Ann Meigs Lane.
Mrs. O'Quinn began her education in the one-teacher schoolhouse at Farmers High and graduated from Bowdon High School in 1956. While working at West Georgia College, she took classes during her lunch hour and at night, earning both her bachelor's, and later her master's degree, in Education. It was at West Georgia where she met her beloved husband, Jim O'Quinn. They married on July 3, 1969, and shared over five decades of love and partnership.
Mrs. O'Quinn's heart for teaching was evident in her long career as a fourth-grade teacher in the Carroll County School System, where she retired from Sandhill Elementary School. She always believed every child was important, calling her work with children "work with very important little people." Her classroom was a place where she often shared her love for birds and nature with her students, teaching them not only academic lessons but also a deep appreciation for the natural world.
Mrs. O'Quinn found peace in the outdoors, spending countless hours birdwatching, exploring the beauty of nature, and as a Master Gardener. She was a quiet observer of the world's wonders, always finding joy in the simple things—a songbird's call or the rustling of leaves in the wind.
Mrs. O'Quinn was also a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Carrollton, where she found spiritual solace and a supportive community.
She is survived by her loving husband, Jim O'Quinn; her daughter and son-in-law, Zoe and Chris Evans of Carrollton; her son and daughter-in-law, James (III) and Maggie O'Quinn of Omaha, Alabama; her grandchildren, Quinn and Hunter Freeman, Kenneth and Madison Evans, James O'Quinn IV, and William O'Quinn; her great-granddaughter, Janie Grace Freeman; and her sister, Janie Baxter of Carrollton; her sisters-in-law, Joyce Lane and Jackie Lane, and her many beloved nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Ann was preceded in death by her brothers, M.B. Lane Jr., Horace Lane, Frank Lane; her nephews, Britt Baxter and Frank Lane Jr; and her sister-in-law, Sylvia Lane.
The family will receive friends on Monday, October 14, 2024, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Almon Funeral Home.
A funeral service to celebrate Mrs. O'Quinn's life will be held on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, with Rev. Henry Tyson officiating.
Interment will follow in Carroll Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will include Chris Evans, Kenneth Evans, Hunter Freeman, Mills Lane, Larry Lane, Russ Lane, and James O'Quinn IV.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the First Baptist Church, 102 Dixie Street, Carrollton, Georgia 30117, or to a charity of your choice.
