Mrs. Anita Joy Sprewell, age 92, passed away on February 22, 2026. She was born on October 24, 1933 to the late, Rev. Kirby Bryan and Margie Hackney Bryan. She attended Sandhill Elementary before graduating from Villa Rica High School in 1950.

She was a life long Christian and spoke often of her childhood memories of traveling in a horse drawn wagon to attend church. Most recently she was a member of Salem Baptist Church, where she especially enjoyed singing in the church choir.

She loved gospel music and attended many performances in the area. A highlight for her was going to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, to watch some of her favorite singers.

Family and farm life were very important to her, and she worked side by side with her husband, Harold Gilbert Sprewell, in growing crops and tending to live stock. When she wasn't at church or working at home, she likely was at a ball field watching her kids or grandkids, or great grandkids. Many teams have a "team mom" but there's was only one "Team Granny." Granny Sprewell or simply Granny was the ultimate. She provided rides, carried snacks, drinks, "gave the umpires an ear full", or whatever the team needed. In fact, she filled in at catcher when daughter Susan's softball team was short a player. Granny was almost 70 years old at that time.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Survivors include her four children, Sam (Jennie) Sprewell, Sid (Charlsie) Sprewell, Stuart (Connie) Sprewell and Susan McDaniel.

Additionally, she leaves behind 8 grandkids and 12 great grandkids.

Visitation will be Wednesday, February 25, 2026 from 5 PM to 7 PM at Almon Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2026 at 11 AM at Salem Baptist Church with Rev. Cecil Davis and Rev. Ralph Caldwell, officiating and her son, Sam Sprewell giving the eulogy.

Interment will follow in Salem Baptist Church Cemetery with Wesley Sprewell, Josh Sprewell, Matt Sprewell, Harrison Gossett, Brook McDaniel and Skyler Scurry serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer will be Brooks Langley.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Salem Baptist Church, Cemetery Fund, 1089 Salem Church Road, Carrollton, Georgia 30117.
