Mr. Alon Bennie Stewart, age 66, of Carrollton, Georgia passed away on Sunday, June 15, 2014. He was born on February 15, 1948 in Gadsden, Alabama. Alon was very active and had a passion for anything outdoors. He was an avid cyclist and enjoyed camping, fishing and hiking. But most of all he had a huge love for running. If you were looking for him on a Saturday morning, you could usually find him competing in a running event. He won countless medals and awards to show for the time and effort put into his hobby. He was strong, inspiring and a determined man, a loving father and a devoted grandfather. Alon is survived by his father, Willis Jones Stewart of Piedmont, AL; son and daughter-in-law, Matthew Joseph and Jessica "Mimi" Gumbiner Stewart of Ranburne, AL; daughter, Kelsey Annice Stewart of Atlanta, GA; sisters and brothers-in-law, Bonita and Howard Segars of Auburn, AL; Olivia and Charles Phillips of Conyers, GA; grandson, Jax Alon Stewart, who he loved dearly and four nieces and nephews, Nickolas Segars, Callie Segars, Ashley Phillips Cash and Tyler Phillips. He is preceded in death by his mother, Eloise Noreen Stewart and son Geoffrey Craig Stewart. The family will receive friends at Almon Funeral Home on Thursday, June 19 from 10 a.m. until service time. Memorial service will be Thursday, June 19 at 12 noon from the chapel of Almon Funeral Home with Pastor Billy Moss officiating.
