Mrs. Mary Allene North Burnett Eldridge, age 92, of Carrollton, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.
Mrs. Eldridge was born on July 21, 1934, in Carroll County, Georgia, the daughter of the late William Sellie North and Madge Irene Latimer North. She was a court reporter in Hinesville, Georgia, during her professional career.
Allene was a happy and optimistic lady who was known for her kindness, politeness, and positive outlook on life. She played high school basketball in Roopville and enjoyed daily word reading and learning. She was also an avid Atlanta Braves fan and rarely missed watching a game on television. She and her second husband were devoted University of Tennessee Volunteers fans and held season tickets to home games for many years.
Survivors include her siblings, Linda (Herby) Bennett, Lewis (Gloria) North, Kermit North, and Larry North; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their deepest and most heartfelt gratitude to Allene’s devoted caregiver, “Tawana” Lewis, who lovingly cared for her during the last seven years of her life. Tawana’s unwavering compassion, patience, kindness, and faithful presence became an invaluable blessing to Allene and to her entire family. Over the years, their relationship grew far beyond that of caregiver and patient; Tawana became a trusted companion, dear friend, and cherished part of the family. The love and dignity she gave Allene each day will never be forgotten. The family will forever be grateful for the countless ways Tawana cared for, encouraged, comforted, and loved Allene throughout those precious years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Dr. Smith “Smitty” Burnett; second husband, Allen Bart Eldridge; and siblings, Percy North, Frances Wages, Doris Barrett, Sarah Bell, Ralph North, Jaunieta “Nita” Nida, Geri Glaccum, and Charles North.
A graveside service and interment will be held at Carroll Memory Gardens on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at 11:00 AM.
