Alexandra Carla Young, born January 21, 1973, in Doylestown, PA. She is a longtime resident of Coweta County and a graduate of East Coweta High School. Alex was a shining light at the University of West Georgia, touching countless lives throughout her remarkable career. Serving as an Academic Support Specialist and Student Success Champion for the School of Computing, Analytics, and Modeling, she embodied what it means to truly support, guide, and uplift others.

Alex began her time as a student at the as a student in 1991 and began her professional journey at the State University of West Georgia in 1998 as a Senior Secretary for the Computing Department. She obtained her master's degree in 2006 and her dedication and passion for student success led her to become an Academic Advisor in 2007, a role in which she flourished. Over her 28 years of service, she became far more than an advisor. She was a mentor, a teacher, and a trusted friend to thousands of students.

Through her advising, Alex not only guided students academically but also helped shape their professional paths. The relationships she built and the wisdom she shared will continue to ripple outward for years to come. The lessons she instilled in her students about perseverance, growth, and compassion will live on through them and everyone they encounter.

Alex's commitment to the university extended far beyond her daily work. She served as the advisor for Phi Sigma Pi, an academic honor society grounded in scholarship, leadership, and fellowship. She was deeply involved with UWG's Association for Computing Machinery (ACM and ACM-W), volunteered with Relay for Life for 15 years, served as a co-chair for A Day at UWG, contributed as a Staff Advisory Council board member, and was an active member of the UWG

Alumni Association.

To know Alex was to feel seen, supported, and valued. She poured herself wholeheartedly into every interaction, leaving a lasting impression on nearly everyone she encountered. There are few on campus whose lives she did not touch in some meaningful way. Her warmth, kindness, and unwavering dedication made her a beloved presence and a true cornerstone of the UWG community.

Alex is survived by her loving husband of 31 years, Christopher Young; sister, Carol Shugars; nephew, Jarrett Shugars (Breelyn); niece, Tara Shugars Car (Steve); mother-in-law, Carloyn Young; brother-in-law, Warren Young (Christine); nieces, Elora Young, Savannah Young; great nephew, Will Shugars; and great niece, Maisie Shugars and their fur babies Bandit and Copper. She was preceded in death by her mother, Maria De Jesus Dinorah Hernandez.

Alex's legacy is one of service, compassion, and enduring impact. She was one who gave herself to those around her every day. She will be remembered not only for her professional achievements but for the countless lives she changed simply by being herself.

A celebration of life service will be Thursday, June 4, 2026, 2pm, at Almon Funeral Home and Chapel located at 548 Newnan Street, Carrollton, Georgia 30117.

The family will receive friends at Almon Funeral Home on Thursday, June 4, 2026 from 12:30 until the service hour.

An endowed scholarship is being established in Alex's name and information on that will be forthcoming.
