Mrs. Mary Adell Potter Smith, age 89, passed away Tuesday, November 26. Mrs. Smith was born in DeKalb County, Alabama on November 13, 1924, the daughter of John Monroe Potter and Frances Madeline Dickert. She was a faithful wife to R Gene Smith for 67 years, as well as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She worked for the Carrollton City School system as the Jr. High Secretary for 25 years, retiring in 1987. Survivors include her husband, R Gene Smith; her four children, daughters Diane Smith Lockerbie of Vinings, Sharon Smith Henderson and Susan Smith Mashburn of Carrollton, and her son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Janie Smith of Athens; her six grandchildren and spouses, Natalie & Eric Grooms, Ryan & Melissa Jones, Beth & Keith Dickinson, Matthew & Nikki Henderson, Amanda & Max Redman and Katie & Cale Davis. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Mrs. Smith is also survived by her nine great-grandchildren, Nate & Graycen Grooms, Sadie & Rylie Jones, Jacob & Thomas Dickinson, Eli & Owen Henderson and Logan Davis. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her seven older siblings. Mrs. Smith was a member of First Baptist Church Dixie Street for 56 years, and was a faithful member of the Grace Sunday School Class, who will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends at Almon Funeral Home on Friday, November 29 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. The Funeral Service will be Friday, November 29 at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church. Interment will be at Carroll Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 102 Dixie Street, Carrollton, GA, 30117.
