William Ronald Vaughn, 82, passed away on October 7, 2015 after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. Ronnie was born in Carrollton, GA to Edward and Frieda Vaughn on May 16, 1933. He attended Carrollton High School and graduated in 1951. He served as captain of the Carrollton High School football team. While in high school he was able to attend some football games at Ga Tech and thus began his love of the Yellow Jackets. He attended Ga Tech as a co-op student pursuing his degree in Industrial Engineering. He worked his way through school as a co-op on a work/study program at Southwire from 1951 to 1955. He was a member of Chi Psi fraternity at Ga Tech. By his junior year at Tech he was serving as President of Chi Psi and was planning a wedding to Nellie Jo Vines, daughter of Earl and Lois Vines, whom he became friends with in high school. Jo and Ronnie married at the Tabernacle Baptist Church in December of 1954. Ronnie graduated from Georgia Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering in 1956 and continued his employment with Southwire. In 1958, he began his long career with Southern Bell and later at AT&T. Ronnie and Jo had 2 children, Elaine and Jan, and lived in Atlanta until 1968 when he transferred to New Jersey with AT&T for 2 years. They returned to Atlanta in 1970 and lived there another 5 years before being transferred for a second time to Chatham, NJ where Ronnie was employed in New York City with AT&T. He retired in 1993 as a Division Manager of the global real estate team after 35 years of service. Ronnie and Jo then relocated permanently to Atlanta with a 2nd home in Hilton Head, SC. They enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren and traveling back and forth to Hilton Head where Ronnie enjoyed his pastime of playing golf. In 2001, a few years after Jo's death Ronnie permanently relocated to Hilton Head. He returned to his hometown of Carrollton in 2011 and resided at Cottage Landing. Ronnie was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church in Atlanta, an enthusiastic Ga Tech supporter, a devoted father, an avid reader and traveler. Ronnie was best known for his complete and total love of Ga Tech football, his devotion to his family and his never ending curiosity to learn new things. He will be missed more than words can say by his daughter Elaine and her husband Joe, granddaughter Ansley and her husband George, grandson Harrison and granddaughter Jamie. He is also survived by his sister Barbara Burson and her husband Dr. John Burson III of Carrollton, his brother David Vaughn and his wife Debbie Vaughn of Wilson, NC and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his wife of 45 years Nellie Jo Vines Vaughn and his mother and father Edward and Freida Vaughn of Carrollton. A memorial service will be held Sunday, October 11, 2015 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Almon Funeral Home with Rev. Brian Jackson officiating.
