Obituary for Mr. Durward M. "Pat" Stayton, Jr.

The family of Durward M. (Pat) Stayton, Jr. celebrate the very full life of their Dad and Poppaw.
Born in Houston, TX on January 23, 1924, Pat called many an oil field camp home before moving to Bay City, TX, where he played fullback on his high school football team, along with basketball and track. WWII interrupted his college experience, prompting him to join the Army Air Corps, becoming a P-47 fighter pilot over the skies of Italy.
Returning home, he married Corine Mylius and returned to Texas A&M to complete his degree. He worked his entire career with Aetna Life & Casualty, rising to the position of General Manager, retiring in 1986. He was a committed man of faith, whose devotion to the Emmanuel Baptist Church in New Jersey touched and helped shape the lives of many. He was a fisherman and forever an ardent Texan. But most of all, he was our Dad.
He was received into the loving arms of his creator on May 2, 2019 at age 95, joining his beloved wife, CoCo – but leaving behind his son, Brad (of Sudbury, MA), Barbara and Beverly Stayton (of Carrollton, GA), five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The family will welcome visitors at Almon Funeral Home in Carrollton, GA on Monday, May 6 from 5 pm-8 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to South Texas Children's Home Ministries, P.O. Box 759, Beeville, TX 78104-0759.
