Marion K. (Mickey) Newsom, 71, died on Tuesday, February 24, 2015. He was a resident at The Oaks of Carrollton. He was born in Macon, GA on December 8, 1943 to Marion and Barbara Newsom. Mickey was an Eagle Scout, recipient of the Bronze Star for service during the Vietnam War, a Georgia Tech graduate and a certified quality engineer. He retired from Southwire Machinery Division in 1999. At the time of his death, he was a member at Cross Plains Christian Church. He had been a very active member at First Christian in Carrollton and First Christian in Tyrone....serving in many capacities. He was on the board and also treasurer at Woodland Christian Camp for many years. He was happiest when giving to others. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Horsley Newsom, daughters-Dawn Swearingen and Andi (Tommy) Burson; stepson-Shane (Laurie) Tapp; five grandchildren-Allie, Harley, Logan, Jewell and Hank; two step grandsons-TJ and Jacob. He is also survived by a sister, Corliss (William) Ferris; two sisters-in-law- Martha Kay (Harlin) Williamson and Becky (Norman) Deese and a brother-in-law, Bob (Brenda) Horsley. An uncle, several aunts, nephews, nieces and cousins also survive. Per his request his body will be cremated and there will be no service.
