Obituary for Marilyn L. Zander

Beloved wife, mother, and grandmother Marilyn L Zander died on Tuesday, February 19, 2019, at age 77. She was the daughter of Mary and George Leary of Newtonville, MA. Marilyn graduated with a degree in Mathematics from Regis College in Weston, MA. She declined a Fulbright scholarship to instead receive her Masters degree in Mathematics from Catholic University in Washington, D.C., where she met her husband Vernon. Her first job was working as a computer programmer for Honeywell Corporation in Waltham, MA, and she later worked at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, MD. Vernon and Marilyn moved to Georgia in 1968 where he taught Mathematics at West Georgia College and she started her favorite job of all time— raising her family. She is survived by her husband Vernon and 4 daughters: Carolyn (Tucker) Alford of Atlanta, Christine (Chuck) Konfrst of Peachtree Corners, Laura Zander of San Francisco, CA, and Ellen (Todd) Malosh, of New Jersey. Also surviving are 6 dearly loved grandchildren: Henry, George, and Smith Alford; Joshua and Anne Konfrst; and Anna Malosh. Marilyn is also survived by her brother John Leary and his wife Mary Louise of Harwichport, MA, her aunt Jeannie Mahoney of Yarmouthport, MA, her dear travelling companions and brother-in-law Del and Berta Zander of Tucson AZ, and sister-in-law Linnea and Don Hirst.

Marilyn was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church for over 50 years and served in various capacities as lector, Sunday school teacher, and Samaritan visitor to the sick. She also enjoyed her Sportsplex gym membership where she made many wonderful friends.

The family will receive friends at Almon Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. A rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be Friday, February 22, 2019 at 2:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with Father Rafael Carballo officiating.

Inurnment will be in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church Cemetery.
