Jean S. Gainey, 83, of Carrollton, GA, passed away on August 27, 2012. She was born November 15, 1928 in Cheraw, SC to Gary Evans and Shellie Hall Stanton. Jean graduated from Cheraw High School in Cheraw, SC, and attained a Bachelor of Science Degree from Lander University in Greenwood, SC in 1949. She was a high school teacher for several years before her boys were born, at which time she became a full time home maker. Jean will be remembered for her love of her family and friends and caring for others. Throughout her life Jean was active in church work and civic organizations. She was a member of Carrollton Presbyterian Church in Carrollton, GA. Jean is survived by her two sons Mike (wife, Sally) of Chattanooga, TN and Kip of Powder Springs, GA; a brother Homer Evans Stanton (wife, Margaret) of Cheraw, SC; grandsons Brandon (wife, Anna) of Prairie Village, KS and Jordan and Jackson of Goodwater, AL; great grandson Blake of Prairie Village, KS and a number of nieces and nephews. Jean was preceded in death by her husband Jack A. Gainey. Cremation will be arranged by Almon Funeral Home in Carrollton, GA followed by a private family memorial.
