Obituary for Hubert "Skip" Yow, Jr.

Hubert “Skip” Yow Jr., 84, husband of Jackie MacDonald Yow, died Wednesday, March 6, 2019. Born in Athens, Georgia, he was the son of the late Hubert and May Yow. He and his wife, Jackie, were life-long companions since the age of 12 and spent 72 years together, 62 of which they were happily married. He was a longtime supporter of education and athletics, always passionate about his job and involvement within the education system.

He was a veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Yow retired from the Georgia Department of Education where he served as a Legislative Liaison and was a member of the First Baptist Church.

To know Skip was a privilege. A true gentleman who never met a stranger and made everyone feel welcome with his dry sense of humor. He was very selfless and always supported his children and grandchildren. He never missed an event for the people he loved. He was a lover for the game of golf, playing pool, and traveling with his friends and family.

Survivors include his wife, Jackie MacDonald Yow; daughters, Beth Yow Toney and Nicki Yow McGovern both of Carrollton; grandchildren, Meghan (Dustin) Davis of Carrollton; Maggie McGovern of Athens, Georgia and brother, Russell (Marjorie) Yow of Vienna, Georgia. He is preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 9, 2019 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Steve Davis and Mr. Jim Puckett officiating.

The family will receive friends at the First Baptist Church on Saturday from 12 noon until 2 p.m.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ronnie Williams, Glynn Grisham, David McClesky, Jimmy Stokes, Buford Clements, Randy Brittain, Theron Jennings, Don Hicks, William Traylor, Jim Puckett, Doyle Garrett and Roger Kaiser.

Inurnment will be in Vienna City Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Carrollton City Schools Education Foundation, 106 Trojan Drive, Carrollton, GA 30117 or the First Baptist Church Legacy Campaign, 102 Dixie Street, Carrollton, GA 30117.
