William Horace Carden of Carrollton, GA passed away on June 10, 2009 after a yearlong battle with cancer. He died at home with his family at his side. He was born in Haralson County, and was the son of Thomas and Vera Slate Carden. Horace was happiest with his family and friends, and enjoyed playing golf and attending his church and his beloved Believers Sunday School class. He was a World War II veteran, and a 50-year Mason and Shriner. Horace had served on the Bremen City Council, and was a member of the board of the Carroll County Livestock Barn. At one time, he was the youngest major automobile dealer in the state of GA. Horace then traveled Georgia as a salesman for the Ray Sewell Company. He then established and operated successful retail stores in Carrollton, Douglasville, Bremen, Perry, and Macon. Horace then started JHC Outdoor Agency, a local outdoor advertising company which he ran for over 20 years. He and his wife, Jackie, were ardent supporters of the Tanner Hospital Foundation. He was especially instrumental in erecting the "Big Cross� on Bankhead Hwy that you pass by when traveling to Carrollton. Horace is survived by his wife Jackie, son, Pat Carden, daughter, Kay and Mark Pitstick. He had five grandchildren, Ryan Carden, Knoxville, TN, Shannon and Jason Holdbrooks, Gillian and Mike Lohr, Smyrna, Evan Pitstick, and Logan Pitstick. He also had one great-grandchild, Amelia Lohr. He was also survived by one brother, Johnie Carden, sister, Dorothy Austin, Peggy Gresham all of Bremen and Janell Brown of Bowdon. Funeral services will be Friday, June 12, 2009 at 4 P. M. at the First United Methodist Church with Ministers officiating Eddie Herring and Karla Ostroszko. Pallbearers include: Bill Rhodes, Burnell Redding, Bill Copeland, Robert King, Ned Harman, Charlie Adams, Bob Casady, and Chad Rowell. Honorary pallbearers will be The Believers Sunday School Class and the Carrollton High School Class of 1947.
