Obituary

Mrs. Gwendolyn "Bo" Chauveaux Briant, age 81, of Carrollton, entered the gates of Heaven on Saturday, April 18, 2020. She passed peacefully at home, surrounded by her loved ones, with her favorite gospels playing. Bo was born on March 26, 1939 on a sunny, yet breezy day in Cumming, Georgia to the late Garston and Colista Holcomb. She attended West Fulton High School, just around the corner from the house she grew up in. Much of her time was spent studying the Bible and caring lovingly for her younger sister, Pat. At the age of 17 she met the love of her life, Mr. Clifford W. Briant. She was working as a cashier at a local grocery market when he came in and asked if he could walk her home. The rest, as they say, was history. Their love story turned into a dedicated marriage that lasted until his passing in 1982. From their love came three children, six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren who were doted upon and showered with affection. Bo never tired of having a growing and bustling family. Every marriage and every birth filled her heart with happiness and excitement. Bo was always a natural care giver. She found such joy and meaning in caring for both her loved ones and strangers alike. In 1998 she earned her CNA license and made caregiving her career. She fell in love with every family she ever served, and she dedicated each moment with them to improving their quality of life. Their family became part of her family. Long after she retired she still received Christmas cards and phone calls from some of her client's families. She poured her heart and soul into her work, but if you ever asked her, she would say it was a blessing to do so. Bo had a deep love of the Lord and loved listening to gospel music. She enjoyed going to church and listening to the Word, and this was never more evident than when it was time to sing and worship. Music of all kinds was a constant companion in her life. Scarcely did she clean her home, cook, balance her checkbook, or drive to the store without music. She also adored nature and loved having bird feeders outside and as many plants as possible inside. There were times her home rivaled greenhouses. She loved pruning and caring for her plants, though she often passed on the watering duties to her children, and then eventually to her grandchildren. You could build a coffee table with the amount of magazines she kept for recipes to try. Thanksgiving and Christmas were always a source of great excitement. The days leading up to these large family gatherings were filled with the scents of her delicious homemade dressing, which included her signature biscuits she made from scratch. Mostly she was just thrilled to have all of her "chickens" in one place. As she got older, Bo also developed a love of mystery television and she could often be found with "Matlock" or "In the Heat of the Night" on in the background while she played hidden clue games on her computer. A couple of her great-grandchildren occasionally perched upon her lap as they "helped" her play. She had the patience of Job. She was the one everyone turned to for advice, for comfort, and for strength. There are not enough words to describe the depth of compassion and love that poured constantly from her lips. Anyone who ever met Bo might have started as a stranger, but she treated each one as though they were her brother or her sister. She passed down those traits to her family and never stopped urging her loved ones to be humble, patient, and kind. She was many different things to many people: wife, mother, 'mama', grandma, 'mama Briant', 'Gi-gi ', sister, aunt, cousin, friend, or just affectionately "Bo". But no matter what your relation to her, you were cared for and so very deeply loved. The chasm of her loss will be felt by many, but so will the joy of her triumphant return to her maker. Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Wayne Vinson of Whitesburg, Virginia and William Shaffer of Franklin; son and daughter-in-law, Clifford, Jr. and Cynthia Briant, of Leesburg, Alabama; grandchildren, Matthew Arrowood, Angelyn Arrowood, Chelsea Church, Rachel Shaffer, Dalton Briant and Destiny Briant; great grandchildren, Liam Church, Auston Pate, Kaleb Pate, Logan Pate, Alexis Arrowood and Tristan Arrowood; sister, Patricia Land Horsley of Conyers, along with several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Briant, Sr. A private graveside service will be at Crest Lawn Memorial Park in Atlanta, Georgia with Pastor Keith Day and Pastor Cyndi Day officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Believers Fellowship Church Sanctuary Building Fund, 1505 West Main Street, Centre, Alabama 35960.
