Obituary for Gwen Ables Cocklereece

Ms. Gwendolyn Louise Ables Cocklereece (Gwen to her family and friends), age 85 of Bremen, Georgia passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2019 surrounding by her family. She was known for her strength, loyalty, friendship and willingness to help others. She gave more than she ever received and never regretted it. In addition to gardening and reading, she loved cooking especially for other people. No one could feed more people on less and enjoy every minute of it other than Jesus.

Ms. Cocklereece was born in Dallas, Georgia on October 1, 1933, the daughter of the late Lawton Ables and Hattie Leggett Ables. She graduated from Dallas High School in 1950. She was an entrepreneur of many businesses, including dry cleaning, florist, hair salon, and a cemetery. She retired from C.M. Tanner Grocery as the Office Manager after 20+ years of service. Gwen devoted her spare time to any and every activity in which her children were involved which included the Central and Carrollton Athletic Booster Clubs, and the Carrollton Bluefins. Gwen was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and loved her church family. After retirement, she loved spending time and traveling with friends including her sisters, but most of all cherished the extra time she had to spend with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, Tom (Janice) Cocklereece of Kennesaw, Louise (Jay) Sutton of Bremen, Kevin (Kate) Cocklereece of West Barnstable, Massachusetts, Michael (Shea) Cocklereece of Roopville, Marie (Andrew) Sharp of Alpharetta; grandchildren, Matthew Cocklereece, Dana (Justin) Perry, Brittany (Brady) Rogers, Dylan Cocklereece, John Cocklereece, Joe (Hannah) Cocklereece, Grace Cocklereece, Kate Cocklereece, Sarah Gwen Sharp, Sam Sharp; six great grandchildren with one due in July; one great-great grandchild; sisters, Ruth Harris and Nell Buchanan. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Lenio and a brother, William Ables.

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church.

A memorial service will be Saturday, May 18, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Baptist Church with Rev. Jay Sutton, Rev. Tom Cocklereece officiating and eulogy by Mr. Mike Cocklereece.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Dallas High School Class of 1950.

Inurnment will be in Carroll Memory Gardens.

Flowers are accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Baptist Church, 501 Northside Dr., Carrollton, Georgia 30117.
