Obituary

Elizabeth M. Scott (March 24, 1914-December 8, 2008) met the man, Albert (Al) C. Scott, who would become her husband during her senior year at Atlanta's Commercial High School. After her graduation in the worst year of the Great Depression, 1932, even though her academic record showed that she was very good at taking shorthand and typing, businessmen were unwilling even to let her work for their firm for free in order to get work experience. A native of Atlanta and a fifth-generation Georgian, she married Mr. Scott at a home wedding in Atlanta's West End on December 24, 1932. A graduate of Atlanta's Tech High School, Mr. Scott had dropped out of the Georgia Institute of Technology to help his father out financially by taking a job with Georgia Power Company. He retired from this Company in 1976 as Atlanta Division Meter Superintendant. Mrs. Scott dedicated her life to making a home for her husband and daughter. She and her husband lived, first, in West End and, subsequently, in Forest Park near Georgia Power Company's General Service Headquarters. After her husband's death in 1998, she moved to Carrollton to live with her daughter, Dr. Carole E. Scott, a Professor Economics at the University of West Georgia. In accordance with her wishes her body was cremated. Messages of condolences may be sent to the family at www.almonfuneralhome.com. Almon Funeral Home of Carrollton in charge of arrangements.
