Obituary for Dianne B. Hetzel

Dianne B. Hetzel, 78, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, September 23, 2018. Dianne was born in Atlanta, to Samuel Russell Bridges, Jr. and Julia Dunning Colquitt Bridges. She graduated from Northside High School, attended Randolph Macon Women’s College, completed her education at Emory University, and was stationed in the Philippines as a Peace Corps volunteer. Upon returning to Atlanta, Dianne became Delta Airlines’ first female ticket agent. She married Zane H. Hetzel in Atlanta on August 3, 1968, with whom she recently celebrated 50 years together. Dianne was a dedicated Christian, meeting regularly with peers and mentees for bible study, prayer, and fellowship. Her faith took her across Europe, planting churches and Christian schools, and sharing the love of Christ. Dianne was an active member of the Methodist Church throughout her life, most notably Northside United Methodist, which her parents helped found, and most recently Carrollton First United Methodist. Dianne was also an enthusiastic leader of water aerobics classes and swim lessons in her community of Fairfield Plantation in Villa Rica.

Dianne was a “mother” to many; exchange students, summer boarders, and young neighbors all experienced her hospitality and generosity. Family and friends often were the recipients of a “JBILY” (“Just Because I Love You”) gift or a “sack” with something like a bag of treats picked up from a roadside fruit stand, a page ripped from her devotional, and a just-finished book she wanted to pass on. Dianne will be forever remembered for her thoughtfulness (She never missed sending a birthday card!) and her abiding faith in Jesus Christ with whom she is surely celebrating in heaven. There, Dianne was reunited with her parents and baby brother, Jim.

She is survived by her husband Zane; siblings Terry Bridges (wife Reg Bridges), Bob Bridges (wife Linden Bridges), Tom Bridges (wife Anita Bridges), and David Bridges; children Maria Anette Roberts (husband James Roberts), Dianne Elaine Meyer (husband Christopher Meyer), Russell Zane Hetzel (wife Elizabeth Hetzel), Dorrie Elizabeth Moate (husband Lloyd Moate), and April Joy Johnson (husband Kevin Johnson); grandchildren Christine Nicole Acosta, Joshua James Roberts, Lauren Julia Landon, Caitlin Grace Meyer, Christian Stephen Meyer, James Canon Meyer, Rebekah Anne Hetzel, Sarah Elizabeth Hetzel, Kharina Julia Moate, Ansley Joy Moate, Peyton Elizabeth Moate, and Nathan Lee Johnson; great-grandchildren Louis Manuel Acosta, Marcus Anthony Acosta, Ellie Grace Roberts, Grayson James Roberts, Brady Matthew Landon, Audree Emma Landon, Hunter Cole Landon, and Madison Harper Landon; many nieces and nephews, and special family members Bjørn Christopherson (wife Anne) and Björn Küstner (wife Barbara).

The family will host visitation Thursday, September 27, 2018 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Carrollton, 206 Newnan Street, Carrollton, GA 30117.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Pregnancy Resource Center of Carrollton, 514 Tanner Street, Carrollton, Georgia 30117.
