Carol F. Chavies Mrs. Carol Finney Chavies, age 88, of College Street, Carrollton passed away Monday, August 23, 2010. Mrs. Chavies was born in the Holton Community in Bibb County on December 15, 1921, the daughter of the late M. G. Finney and Lessie Mackey Finney. Earlier in her career, she worked for Tanner Hospital and Doctors McLendon, Colditz, and Parrish. She was a homemaker and member of the Adult Fellowship Sunday School Class, and Carrollton First United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband, J. O. "Buck" Chavies; daughter and son-in-law, Paulette and Donald Slate of Douglasville; son, Jimmy Chavies of Waco; grandchildren, Jason and Karen Slate, Jamie and Stephen Gowen, Kelly Stephenson, Amy Ellington; great grandchildren, Austin and Abby Slate, Libby and Will Gowen, Wes and Ben Stephenson, Anna Claire Ellington, sister, Loretta Browning of Jackson; and brother, Carl Finney of Jackson. Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at 2 pm from the chapel of Almon Funeral Home with the Dr. Dean Milford and Dr. Jimmy Thurman officiating. The Adult Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Carrollton First United Methodist Church Youth Ministry, 206 Newnan Street, Carrollton, Ga. 30117.
