Ms. Betty Nell Hughes, age 87 of Carrollton, Georgia passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2015. Born in Carrollton Betty Nell Maddox on September 28, 1928. Betty Hughes was the daughter of a blacksmith, Rhudy and his wife Belle, both of Carrollton. She was one of 10 children. Only her brother, Elmer is still alive, all others are with the Lord. Betty left high school to work to help support the family and worked as a seamstress for 3 decades for Hubbard in Bremen. She married Bud Hughes in 1947, a World War II Veteran and founder of "Ye Ole Clock Shop" in Carrollton. She had one child, devoted daughter, Sandy. Many close family members and friends will mourn Betty's passing, including: Brother, Elmer; sisters-in-law, Dawn Maddox and Drucilla Maddox; nieces, Yvonne Jones and Pat Egan; great nieces, Mary Hudson, Clarissa Payne and Chris Brooks; nephew, Brad Maddox and great nephew, Byron Dean. Betty never seemed anything but young to all who were around her. She insisted on cleaning out her own roof gutters, mowing her own lawn and taking care of her dogs. A good wife, a good cook, a good housekeeper and above all a very good friend to all. She always dressed and acted like a lady of the South and seemed to make new friends everywhere she went. Once you met Betty, you would never forget her. She was a member of Beulah Baptist Church, Sr. Adult Sunday School Class, church choir and Circle of Friends. The family will receive friends at Almon Funeral Home on Saturday from noon until the service time. Memorial service will be Saturday, November 21, 2015 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Almon Funeral Home with Rev. Shane Waldrop and Mr. James Porter officiating.
