William Covington

March 12, 1943 - September 1, 2012

William DeBerry (Bill) Covington, age 69, of Carrollton Georgia passed away September 1st, 2012. Bill was born on March 12, 1943 at William Beaumont General Hospital, Fort Bliss, El Paso TX, and was the Son of Edmund DeBerry (Ted) Covington Jr. and the late Laura Foote Covington.

Bill was a successful Attorney at Law, and served in the United States Air Force. He was also a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. His survivors include: his father Ted Covington; wife Debbie Upshaw Covington; daughter Beth Covington Auer, husband Steve, and children Nicholas and Lauren from Chicago, IL; daughter Susan Covington Berrong, husband Alec, and children Eliza, Eydie and Brooks from Dunwoody, GA; sisters Susan Sullivan, Becky Calder, Cindy Covington and Laurie Phillips; and step-children April Sullivan and Rob Sullivan, wife Karen and son Emerson. Preceded by death were his loving mother Laura Covington, and sister Kay Crowder.

Among Billís life achievements, education was a pillar of his success. After he was graduated from Lakeland High School, in Lakeland Florida, he went on to attend the University of the South, Sewanee, TN. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the Air Force and graduated from the Air Force Academy in Colorado and began his service at Tyndall Air Force Base in Panama City, FL. After his honorable discharge as Captain, he attended and graduated from the Walter F George School of Law at Mercer University.

Bill was an active participant of the Carrollton Community. He was a loyal member of the Rotary Club, and served as President in 1992. He was passionate about acting and theatre having several leading roles with the Carrollton Community Theatre through the years, most memorable for one of the leading roles in ďSmoke on the MountainĒ in 1993. As many know, he was an avid Georgia Tech Fan, lover of bluegrass and folk music, had a wonderful culinary knowledge and talent, and had an ongoing passion for raising and training Britney Spaniels.

Family and friends are invited to attend the interment at Carroll Memory Gardens at 2:00 Tuesday September 4th. A Celebration of Life will follow at St. Margaretís Episcopal Church at 3:00 with a reception to follow.

Visitation will be held at Almon Funeral Home on Monday September 3rd from 5:00 to 6:30.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Billís memory may be made to St. Margaretís Episcopal Church, 606 Newnan Street Carrollton GA, 30117.
