Nelson Stapler
Mr. Nelson Styles Stapler,79, of Adamson Avenue, Carrollton, GA, passed away Tuesday March 9, 2010.
Mr. Stapler was born in Cleburne County, Alabama on June 24, 1930, the son of the late G .J. Stapler and Velma Armeta Smith Stapler.
Mr. Stapler was a veteran of the U. S. Army where he served in the 315th Signal Corp Battalion C in 1951. He was moved to Germany on Ship MTS William O’Darby where he served in the German cities of Bramerhaven, Pirmeseng, and Kaisershautern. The 315th was disbanded, but the servicemen have a reunion each year which Mr. Stapler attended until last year.
He was retired sewing machine mechanic and member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and Bob Powell Sunday School Class.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Martha Ann Horton Stapler; sons, Randy Nelson Stapler ,Villa Rica, Kipper Styles Stapler, Ft. Walton Beach, FL, daughter, Holly K. Stapler Braswell, Carrollton, 5 grandchildren, Christopher Adam Morgan, Christopher J.(Brandi) Stapler , Alexander Scott Morgan, John Nelson Stapler, Hannah Elizabeth Braswell, brother, Vachel (Frances) Stapler, Huntsville, AL, sisters, Verlie Stapler Gaines, Ranburn, AL, Dessie Stapler McGuire and Diane Stapler (William) Williams, Ranburn, AL, Kelsie Jean Stapler (Bob) Howell, Anniston, AL and Bobbie Lee Stapler Sprewell, Coldwater, AL; sisters-in-law, Maiden Horton, Helen Tarpley, and Ruth Stapler, all of Carrollton. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, V.J. Stapler, and sister, Nellie Faye Stapler Abercrombie..
Funeral services will be Thursday, March 11 at 2 o’clock at the Tabernacle Baptist Church Chapel with Dr. Jimmy Gentry and Dr. Howard Cobble officiating.
Pallbearers will be Jim Grant, Jackie Herrin, Wayne Watson, Ron Hansen, Jessie Kitchens, Billy Horton, Jerry Stapler, and Dr. George Astin. The Bob Powell Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Memorial contributions may be made to Tabernacle Baptist Church, 150 Tabernacle Dr., Carrollton, GA. 30117.
Interment will be at Salem Baptist Church Cemetery with American Legion Post #143 folding and presenting the flag.
