William Hugh “Bill” Johnson, 56, a lifelong resident of Carrollton and devout Trojan, died Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2016.
He was born Aug. 16, 1960, the son of Hugh Dorsey “Boogie” Johnson and Nina Caudell Johnson. He served as a radiology technician at Tanner Medical Center for three decades where he was presented the coveted Customer Service Award and completed his career as an MRI technician.
Athletic involvement was expected in his family of five siblings. He played for the Carrollton High School Trojans football team, #53 as center, and his children proclaim him as "The Greatest Trojan of all time." His loyalty continued as a fan and as a parent, going more than 20 years without missing a single game. One year, as a gift, his children gave him tickets to a ZZ Top concert that happened to be on a Friday night in the fall, and he reluctantly declined because the Trojans were playing.
He was a loving and devoted husband and father that made an impact of cherished memories that will last a lifetime. He was also a devoted grandfather who created a “Boys Club” breakfast on Saturdays at the Maple Street Diner, a tradition that had continued for several years for his sons and grandsons. He loved movies, especially comedies. He could recite quotes from iconic films expecting others to join in. He was known for his smile, whistling while walking the halls at Tanner, and love for his family. He was dearly loved by so many.
He is survived by his parents and his wife, Connie Johnson; brothers, Mike (Karen) Johnson, Mitch (Rebecca) Johnson, and Bob Johnson; sister, Susan Rowell; sons, Andy (Brooke) Johnson and Ben Johnson; daughter, Elizabeth (J.R.) Wright; stepson, DeWayne (Ashley) Bearden; and grandsons, Drew and Will Johnson.
The visitation service will be held at Almon Funeral Home Saturday, Dec. 17 from 2p-4p.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, Dec. 18, at 2 p.m. at Southern Hills Christian Church with the Rev. Shannon Lovelady and the Rev. Bill Stone officiating.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Carrollton City Schools Education Foundation, 106 Trojan Drive, Carrollton, GA 30117. Contributions will be used to erect a memorial in Bill's honor.
