Obituary for Thomas "Tom" Anthony Rolka, Sr.

ROLKA, Maj. (USAF, Ret.), Thomas “Tom” Anthony (77), a 29-year resident of Peachtree City, GA, died peacefully on Wednesday, May 10, 2017. Tom was married to the late Kathleen C. Lyons for 54 years.

Tom was active in the Peachtree City, GA Rotary Club, serving as Secretary, Vice President, and President. He was a Paul Harris Fellow contributor many times over. Tom was best known for his kindness and generosity and will be deeply missed by family and friends.

Born and raised in St. Louis, MO, Tom graduated from St. Louis University in 1960 with a bachelor’s degree in Commerce. Following graduation, Tom served 20 years active duty in the U.S. Air Force as a Procurement Officer. He was stationed at George AFB (Victorville, CA), Hulbert Field (Ft. Walton Beach, FL), Mactan Air Base (Cebu, PI), US Air Force Telecom Procurement Group (Reading, PA), Richards-Gebauer AFB (Belton, MO), and Griffiss Air Force Base (Rome, NY). Following his active duty military career, Tom served an additional 20 years working as a civilian logistician with the U.S. Army at Fort Drum (Watertown, NY) and Fort MacPherson (Atlanta, GA). He retired from Civil Service in 1997.

Tom is survived by his sister, Donna Kassel of Cheyenne, WY, his brother Jim (Gail) Rolka of Navato, CA, and his three children Tom Jr., (Lisa) Rolka of Canton, GA, John Rolka (Margaret Ibasco) of Bronx, NY, and Christine Rolka (Sal Peralta) of Carrollton, GA. He has 7 surviving grandchildren (Samantha, Mitchell, Ana, Michael, Carlos, Sarah, and Alex).

Tom will be cremated at the Almon Funeral Home in Carrollton, GA.

A memorial service will be held celebrating Tom’s life Saturday, July 1, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Peachtree City, GA.
