Obituary for The Rev. Donald "Don" Rieder

Rev. Donald "Don" D. Rieder, age 80 of Carrollton, Georgia passed away Thursday, February 9, 2017.

The Rev. Rieder was born in Akron, Ohio on December 13, 1936, the son of the late William Jonas Rieder, Sr. and Verna Floyd Rieder. He received his Masters Degree in Theology from Emory University. He retired as a Lutheran Minister after 48 years and was a Methodist Minister for several years prior. He was a pastor at the following churches, Bethel Lutheran Church in Springfield, GA, St. Paul's Lutheran in Savannah, GA, St. John's Lutheran Church in Rincon, GA, Cross of Life Lutheran Church in Roswell, GA, First Lutheran Church in Nashville, TN, Christ Lutheran Church in Shelbyville, TN and several Methodist churches in TN. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Carrollton, GA. He loved photography, loved painting oil art, sailing and traveling. He traveled worldwide for the Habitat for Humanity and took a trip to Tapachula, Mexico where he worked in an orphanage. He will forever be remembered for his true servant spirit.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Allen Rieder, daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Liesel and Paul Reidenbach of Northport, NY, Dana and Joey Sharp of Carrollton; granddaughter, Shirley Sharp, grandson, Kenneth Reidenbach and extended family and friends. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his son, William Jonas Rieder, II and brother, William Jonas Rieder, Jr.

The family will receive friends at the First Baptist Church in Carrollton from 10 a.m. until the service hour.

A worship service will be held Saturday, February 11, 2017 at the First Baptist Church at 11 a.m. with Dr. Steve Davis and Dr. Henry Tyson officiating .

Inurnment will be in Warren/Red Hill Cemetery in Pelham, TN on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at 2 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church-Legacy Camp, 102 Dixie Street, Carrollton, GA 30117.
