Obituary for T.L. Thomas

Mr. Troy Lee "T.L" Thomas age 83, of Whitesburg, Georgia passed away Wednesday, June 6, 2018.

Mr. Thomas was born in DeKalb County, Alabama on May 1, 1935, the son of the late Troy Thomas and Nellie Mae Steed Akins. He was a veteran having served in the United States Army, had worked at Douglas and Lomason and later retired from Yother Construction as Superintendant. He was a member of Carroll Masonic Lodge #69 F&AM and Antioch Baptist Church on Highway 5 in Whitesburg Georgia.

T.L. was a jack-of-all trades, enjoying working on all types of equipment from small engines to heavy equipment. He loved to stay busy at all times, enjoying fishing, golfing, woodworking, camping, gardening and leather crafting, where he made leather bible covers for many in his church. T.L. was a loving husband, father, and Paw Paw Thomas.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Annette J. Thomas; sons and daughters-in-law, Doye and Elaine Thomas of Newnan, Troy and Shirley Thomas of Whitesburg; daughter, Terry Lynn Phillips Zbylut also of Whitesburg; 10 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; brother, F.L. Akins of Bowdon; sister, Debra Lepard of Ft. Oglethorpe, Georgia; brother-in-law, Arnold (B.J.) Janney of Five Points, Alabama; sister-in-law, Linda (Charles) Smith of LaGrange; brother-in-law, Norris Williamson of Ringgold, Georgia and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by sons, Henry Thomas, Doug Phillips; brother, Russell Thomas and sisters, Eva Mae Craft and Sue Williamson.

Funeral service will be Friday, June 8, 2018 at 4 p.m. from the chapel of Almon Funeral Home with Pastor Alvin Hunnicutt officiating. Music will be provided by Judy Hunnicutt.

The family will receive friends at Almon Funeral Home on Friday from 2 p.m. until the service time.

Family will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be great grandchildren.

Interment will be in Bethesda Baptist Church Cemetery with Masonic Lodge #69 F&AM providing Masonic Rights and American Legion Post #143 providing military honors.
