Obituary for Russell Butler

Mr. John Russell Butler, age 73 of Carrollton, Georgia passed away Saturday, December 9, 2017 at his residence surround by family and friends.

Mr. Butler was born in Carroll County, Georgia on October 8, 1944, the son of the late John Herman Butler and Clarice Griffin Butler. He graduated from Central High School, attended Southern Tech and was a charter member of Roopville Road Baptist Church. He loved camping, hunting, being outdoors and was an avid Auburn football fan.

He had a lifelong career as a Real Estate Appraiser having owned Appraisal Associates. Mr. Butler was very involved in his community having been a past member of the Lions Club, West Georgia Senior Golf Club, first president of the Central Booster Club and Society of Real Estate Appraisers.

Greater than his community involvement was his service to his Lord. At the age of 12 he began leading music at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and served as a Sunday School Teacher. In February of 1978, he along with other men from the community established Roopville Road Baptist Church. Mr. Butler had served as song leader, Deacon, chairman of the Finance Committee, Building Committee, in the Celebration Choir and taught the Friendship II Sunday School Class for many years.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Janice Carden Butler; daughter and son-in-law, Kim Butler Jones and Terry of Carrollton; son and daughter-in-law, Mark Butler and Chantell of Carrollton; his grandchildren, who were the center of his life, Keely Jones and her fiancé, Kaleb Greene, Blake and Rhonda Butler, Sydney Butler, Katie Summey; great grandchildren, Van Butler, Reed Butler; sister and brother-in-law, Sandra Sims and Barry of Carrollton; father-in-law, Grover (Bernice) Carden of Tallapoosa; sister-in-law, Linda Patterson of Tallapoosa; brother-in-law, Kary (Debra) McNeal of Columbia, Tennessee and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Sherman Butler and mother-in-law, Frances Carden.

The family will receive friends at Roopville Road Baptist Church on Monday, December 11 from 4p.m. until 7 p.m.

Funeral service will be Tuesday, December 12 at 2 p.m. at Roopville Road Baptist Church with Dr. Stephen Peeples and Rev. Bryant Turner officiating. Music will be by the Celebration Choir. His body will lie in state at the church from 1 p.m. until service time.

Pallbearers will be Waymon Cheatwood, Richard Eidson, Greg Patterson, Kemp Denney, Blake Butler, Lynn Gable, Jimmy Shirey and Richard Stallings. Honorary pallbearers will be Frank Searcy, Deacons and the Friendship II Sunday School Class.

Interment will be in Carroll Memory Gardens.
