Obituary for Melvin Verne Marshall

Melvin Verne Marshall passed away Saturday, March 4, 2017. He was born May 2, 1940, the son of the late Leon Marshall and Carrie Shirey Marshall.

Verne was always active in community and civic work. He was a Boy Scout leader, a volunteer fire fighter with over 25 years service, active in PTA during his children's school years, and did countless barbecues for fundraising for various charities and his church. He was always there for his friends and neighbors and anyone else in need. A frequent visitor to hospital patients, he was willing to service wherever he could.

He was a member of Lowell United Methodist Church for 40 years, where he served as Superintendent of Sunday School, Staff Parish Relations Committee, Administrative Board, Trustees and his work can be seen all around the buildings and grounds. He loved his church family and the pastors who served there. Verne was a building contractor for over 40 years.

He was preceded in death by this parents, his brother and wife, Gene and Jane Marshall, and his sister, Sharon Abner. He is survived by his wife, Janice Marshall; son and wife, Jim and Lori Marshall of Jemison, AL; son and wife, Bill and Darlene Marshall of Ellijay, GA; daughter and husband, Jennifer and Marshall Dees of Dunwoody, GA; his brother and wife, Verlon and Elaine Marshall of Carrollton, GA; his brother-in-law, Ronald Abner of Duluth, GA; his grandchildren, Ashlie Marshall, Will Marshall, Kristen Marshall, and Nathan Dees and great grandchildren, Jase, Trinity, Corbin, and Brayden and a host of nieces and nephews who were very special to him.

The memorial service will be held Sunday, March 5, 2017 at 3 p.m. from the chapel of Almon Funeral Home, 548 Newnan Street, Carrollton, GA 30117. The family will receive friends there from 1 p.m. until the service hour. Dr. Phil Schroeder and Pastor Tim Constein will lead the service. Mark Lyle will lead the congregation in song with Karen Little at the piano.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Lowell United Methodist Building Fund, 180 Lowell Lane, Carrollton, GA 30116.

There will be a private interment at Welcome United Methodist Church cemetery with Rev. Mike Marshall officiating. Pallbearers will be Steve Marshall, Tim Marshall, John Marshall, Mike Marshall, Matt Marshall, Jim Marshall, and Bill Marshall.
