Ms. Mary Eleanor Nicole (Merrell) Williams, 78, wife of the late Dr. Charlie Williams, passed away on Friday, April 7, 2017, in Carrollton, Georgia. Born on May 14, 1938, in Atlanta, GA, she was the daughter of the late Edward King Merrell and Bernice Pitts Merrell Smith.
Ms. Williams graduated high school from Gulf Park by the Sea and attended Florida Junior College. She aspired to the arts, singing, dancing, participating in radio and theater groups, and was often the soloist in the church choir. She was recognized in Who’s Who of American Women and Who’s Who of Media and Communications. She was the owner and editor of Southwestern Publishing & Advertising, and wrote and published children’s stories. She was a former member of the Carrollton Singles Club, the Chamber of Commerce, and the American Business Women’s Club. She was a member of St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church. Prior to moving to Carrollton, Ms. Williams was active in many civic organizations in Jacksonville, FL, where she was a real estate broker.
She is survived by her children, Mary (Gary) Palmer of Amelia Island, FL; Susan (Guy) Gober of Tiger, GA; and Traci (Michael) Bunch of Fernandina Beach, FL; grandchildren Melissa (Mark) Marinaccio, Bryan (Jennifer) Palmer and Camren, Redding (Maddy), Leah, Georgia (Jackson), Moranel, and Guy Ross Gober; and Kevan, Headon, and Robert Bunch; and great grandchildren Leo and Mary Elizabeth Marinaccio. She is also survived by her aunt, Jimmie de Give; cousins Selma Coty, Donald (Lucy) Walls, and Dennis de Give; and nieces Anna Maria Merrell and Melody Krasner .
In addition to her husband, Charlie, she was predeceased by her brother Edward Douglas Merrell; her divorced husband and friend, Robert L. Cox, of Jacksonville, FL; and her beloved poodle, “Max.”
Funeral service will be Monday, April 10, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, 606 Newnan Street, Carrollton, GA. The Rev. Robert Fowler and Rev. Bruce Laird will officiate, with interment at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, in the Tyus community in Bowdon, Ga. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church Outreach Program. The family would also like to thank Dr. Lee Stringfellow for going above and beyond in the care of our mother.
