Obituary for Bennett Reed Stedwell

Bennett Reed Stedwell passed away unexpectedly at his home in LaFayette, Louisiana. He was born on August 4, 1992 in El Paso, Texas and died on February 14, 2017. Bennett was a 2010 graduate of Carrollton High School and earned his B.Sc degree in Mechatronics, Robotics and Automation Engineering from Southern Polytechnic State University in 2014. Bennett was a swimmer on the Carrollton Blue Fins for several years. During high school he ran on the Carrollton Trojan Cross Country team, and played trombone in the Carrollton Trojan Marching Band. Bennett was a founding member and a captain of the CHS Trojan Remotely Operated Vehicle (R.O.V.) Team which has earned many awards and international recognition every year since its inception. He was captain of the Autonomous Underwater Vehicle Team (AUV) at Southern Poly for his entire college career.

Bennett went on to use his degree and pursue his passion of creating things. He worked as an A.U.V. Technician with Oceaneering International, Inc. Among his varied interests and talents Bennett was an accomplished sailor and diver, having earned his advanced dive certificate. He also built every computer he ever owned and was an avid Lego enthusiast.

Bennett is survived by his parents, Dr Ray and Marie (Sarvay) Stedwell and his sister Ryan. His is also survived by his maternal grandmother, Dorothy A. Sarvay of Cortland, NY, paternal grandmother Patricia B. Stedwell of Concord, NC and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by grandfathers James H. Sarvay and Ray E. Stedwell, Sr.

The family will receive friends at Almon Funeral Home on Sunday, February 19 from 4 pm to 7 pm with the Rosary at 7 pm.

The funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help on Monday, February 20 at 11:00 am. A luncheon in the Parish Hall will follow. All friends and family are invited.

In lieu of flowers, for those desiring to do so, contributions may be made to an ROV scholarship set up in his memory with the Carrollton City Schools Education Foundation, 106 Trojan Drive, Carrollton, GA 30117. The scholarship will benefit a Carrollton High School Student pursuing ROV related studies.
