Obituary for Anita Ott Burbage

Anita Ott 91, of Carrollton, Georgia

Beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, ballet teacher and friend, Anita Ott Burbage passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at her home. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, June 28 at 4 p.m. at the Almon Funeral Home Chapel, with time to visit the family at 3:30.

Ms. Burbage was born in Bamberg, Germany on September 26, 1925, the daughter of Niko Ott and Maria Pabst Ott.

After high school she danced as a professional ballerina with the City Theatre in Augsburg, Germany. Following World War II, she danced with the Munich National Theatre, she was a soloist with the State Theater in Stuttgart, Germany and studied advanced ballet in Munich and Berlin, Germany and Vienna, Austria.

In 1946 she married Jesse S. Burbage Jr. and moved to America.

Establishing Anita’s School of Dance, she taught ballet in Marion, Huntsville and Cullman, Alabama, and Carrollton, Georgia. She choreographed several West Georgia College musicals in the 1970s. The epitome of grace, beauty and discipline, she made a lasting impression on numerous young students. Her daughter, granddaughter and great granddaughter all studied ballet. Shortly prior to her passing, four generations danced together at her home.

She was an active member of St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church for almost 50 years, and her Carrollton studio was in St. Margaret’s parish hall until she retired.

She is survived by her son, Jesse S. Burbage, III (Judy Marsh) of Atlanta; daughter Madalene B. Daniell (Steve) of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; three grandchildren, Shannon M. Burbage, Breck Daniell (Christy), Sarah Daniell Piazza (Erik); five great grandchildren, Reagan, Micah, and Abby Kate Daniell, Daniel and Matthew Piazza; cousins, Felix and Ekkehart Rausch; and her caregivers, Sherry Craft and Gail Turner.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Elfreda Ott, and husband, Jesse S Burbage Jr.
